Why Divija

The Divija Difference

Every jeweller says the stones are good and the gold is real. This page sets out what we actually do differently, and how you can check each claim for yourself.

The workshop

Made by people, in one city

Fine stone-setting is a skill that has stayed in families and at the bench rather than in factories. Our pieces are made in Surat, by bench jewellers who set stones by hand under a loupe — which is slower than casting a setting and dropping stones into it, and is the reason a prong sits flush and an edge does not catch on a sleeve.

It also means a piece can be changed while it is being made. A stone swapped, a shank widened, a setting lowered for someone who works with their hands. That is a conversation with a maker, not a configuration screen.

How a piece reaches you

Four stages, and a record kept at each one.

  • The stone is chosen

Selected against the design it is going into, for colour, cut and how it will sit in the light once it is set.

  • The piece is made

Cast or hand-fabricated, then finished and set at the bench. Ready-to-ship pieces are made ahead; everything else begins when you order.

  • It is tested and marked

Gold goes to a BIS-recognised assaying centre. The purity is tested there, and the hallmark and HUID are struck by the centre rather than by us.

  • It is checked and sent

A final check against the specification, paperwork matched to the piece, then packed and shipped insured and tracked.

Questions

The difference, in plain terms

What actually makes Divija different from a high-street jeweller?

Three things, and all of them are checkable. Stones are selected individually rather than bought as a parcel, so the colour in a piece is chosen rather than averaged. Each piece carries one published price, GST included, shown before you buy. And the exchange and buyback terms are published rather than negotiated at the counter.

Which diamonds do you use?

Our diamonds are lab-grown, and we also work in moissanite and natural gemstones. Each product page states which stone a piece uses, and it is described the same way on the invoice. If a listing is not clear to you, ask us before you order.

How do I know the gold is the purity you say?

You do not have to take our word for it. Every gold piece carries a BIS hallmark with a six-digit HUID that you can check yourself in the BIS CARE app published by the Bureau of Indian Standards. The purity it reports should match your invoice.

Is a made-to-order piece slower than buying in a shop?

Yes, and deliberately so. Ready-to-ship pieces are dispatched within one working day. Anything made to order is dispatched in 10 to 14 working days, because it is made after you order it, and a custom commission takes longer still. The product page states which applies before you buy.

Can I see a piece properly before committing to it?

Message us and we will send more photographs and video of the actual piece, and talk through anything the listing does not cover. For a commission we share the design and the stone before work begins.
