Resizing Policy

A ring that does not fit is not a ring you wear. Resizing requests must be made within 15 days of delivery, and a ring can be resized once. This page sets out what that means before you ask.

How it works

From request to return

Raise the request within 15 days of delivery. Everything after that we handle.

  • Before you order

    Get the size right first

Measure at the end of the day, when fingers are at their largest, and measure the hand the ring will live on. A ring can only be resized once, so the first size matters more than it looks.

  • Within 15 days

    Raise the request

Write to us, call or message us on WhatsApp with the order number and the size you want. Resizing requests must be made within 15 days of delivery.

  • Before any work starts

    We check and quote

We confirm whether the design can take the change, and we tell you the resizing charge. Nothing goes to the bench until you have agreed to it.

  • Then

    Resized and returned

The shank is cut, sized, soldered, refinished and re-polished, then re-checked against its certificate and sent back to you insured.

The policy

Fifteen days, one resize, quoted first

When to ask. Ring resizing requests must be made within 15 days of delivery. Ask us inside that window and we will tell you straight away whether the piece can be resized.

What it costs. A resizing charge applies, including on the first size adjustment. The charge depends on the design and on the work involved, so we quote it to you before anything begins, and no work starts until you have agreed the quote.

How many times. A ring can be resized only once, as repeated resizing may place strain on the ring and affect its structure. This is a limit of the metal rather than of the policy, and it is the reason we would rather help you get the size right before you order.

Which designs. Certain ring designs are not suitable for resizing because of their structure or design. If yours is one of them, we will tell you before any resizing work is undertaken.

What the design will allow

Not every ring can be resized

The setting decides, not the policy. Where a design is not suitable for resizing, we will tell you before any work is undertaken.

  • Resizes easily

Plain bands, solitaires and any design whose lower shank is unset. These take a size change without touching a stone.

  • Resizes with care

Half-eternity and three-quarter pavé designs. The shank can be cut, but the stone spacing has to be re-laid by hand, which takes longer and costs more.

  • Not suitable for resizing

Full eternity bands, channel and tension settings, and anything set all the way round. There is no unset metal to cut, so these designs cannot be resized.

  • Talk to us instead

Where a design is not suitable for resizing, tell us what you need and we will set out the options open to you before anything is decided.

Getting it right first time

How to measure a finger properly

Fingers change size through the day and through the year. They are smallest first thing in the morning and in cold weather, largest in the evening and in heat. Measure warm and late, and measure more than once.

Take the measurement on the finger the ring will actually be worn on — most people's dominant hand is half a size larger. Check that the ring will pass the knuckle: the knuckle, not the base of the finger, is what sets the smallest size that will go on.

Width matters too. A broad band sits tighter than a thin one at the same nominal size, so a 6 mm band usually needs a half size more than a 2 mm one. If you are ordering a wide band, tell us and we will allow for it.

All of this matters more here than at most jewellers, because a ring can be resized only once. A few minutes spent measuring properly is worth more than any policy.

If you are buying a surprise, borrow a ring she already wears on that finger and send us its internal diameter. It is more reliable than a guess and far more reliable than a printed paper sizer.

Questions

Resizing, answered

How long do I have to ask for a resize?

Fifteen days from delivery. Raise the request inside that window, by writing to customer care with your order number and the size you want.

Is the first resize free?

No. A resizing charge applies even for the first ring size adjustment. The charge depends on the design and the work involved, and we quote it to you before any work is undertaken.

Can a ring be resized more than once?

No. A ring can be resized only once, as repeated resizing may place strain on the ring and affect its structure. That is why we ask you to be certain of the size before the request is raised.

What if my design cannot be resized?

Certain ring designs are not suitable for resizing because of their structure or design — a full eternity band has no unset metal to cut, for example. We check this when you raise the request and tell you before any resizing work is undertaken.

Will the hallmark or the certificate still be valid?

Yes. We work around the hallmark, and if the marked section has to be cut, the piece is re-hallmarked before it comes back to you. The certificate describes the stones, which resizing does not touch.

Can I get it resized locally instead?

You can, but it ends our warranty on the piece and makes the piece non-returnable. If another jeweller has opened the shank, we can no longer certify that what is in front of us is what we sold.

Is a bangle or a bracelet resizable?

Bracelets usually are — links come out or go in. Solid bangles usually are not, because there is no join to work at. Chains can be shortened easily and lengthened by adding matching links. Ask us with your order number and we will tell you what your piece will take.

Not sure whether your design can be resized? Send us the order number and we will tell you before you commit to anything.
